One person has been killed in a clash between the Police and Yoruba Nation agitators at a rally in Lagos.
The incident took place at the Ojota area of Lagos
It was gathered that the rally which was initially peaceful turned violent when the police fired tear gas at the agitators resulting in the death of one person.
Agitation for self- determination for Yoruba began on Thursday August 22,2019 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital when the Assembly of All Yoruba Groups worldwide purportedly made Prof Banji Akintoye leader of the Yoruba Nation.
Part of its grievances include killings, maiming, deliberate destruction of farmlands using cattle and attempt by some ethnic group to take over their ancestral lands.
A chieftain of the struggle, Chief Sunday Adeyemo,aka Sunday Igboho reported to boast of drawing guns from the sky and being fortified by his ancestors was overwhelmed by security agencies who stormed his house in Ibadan arresting co – agitators.
Igboho fled to neighboring country,Benin enroute Europe in July 2021 and was nabbed by the security officials there. He was jailed but released and confined to house custody in that country on health grounds in May 2022.
