The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has granted the Rotary Nigeria Peacebuilding & Conflict Prevention Committee ELECTION OBSERVATION status to participate in the upcoming 2023 General Elections as an Election Observer organization.
The announcement was made known in a statement by Pietro Uzochukwu Macleo, the Executive Chairman, Rotary Nigeria Peacebuilding & Conflict Prevention Committee. Pietro also chairs the Peacebuilding & Conflict Prevention Committee, Rotary Inter-country Committee of Nigeria-Great Britain & Ireland as well as Peacebuilding & Conflict Prevention Committee, Rotary International District 9125, Nigeria, ADS.
The statement said the recognition was made In furtherance of the objectives of activating Positive Peace in Nigeria, in line with the whole-of-society peacebuilding and proactive conflict prevention approach of Rotary Nigeria National Peacebuilding & Conflict Prevention Committee, an Initiative of the Rotary Nigerian-Great Britain & Ireland Inter Country Committee(ICC),
The statement further explained that Rotary Members of Districts 9110, 9125, 9141 and 9142 will participate in the election observation exercise after a joint Districts training.
Part of the statement reads, “furthermore, we wish to inform the general public that the Peace Committee is available to collaborate with local and international organizations interested in the 2023 Nigeria general elections.”
“Rotary is a non-political and non-sectarian organization open to all people regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender, or political preference”, therefore all Rotary Members participating in the Election Observation exercise are NOT allowed to be partisan before, during or after the activities, Rotary Nigeria National Peacebuilding & Conflict Prevention Committee’s objective is to observe the 2023 Nigeria General Elections and give an objective account of a free, fair and credible democratic processes therein,” the statement said.
