President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday at the National Arcade in Abuja performed the annual wreath- laying ceremony at the grave of the unknown soldier.
The laying of wreath is the grand finale of activities marking the celebration of the Armed Forces Remembrance week .
Armed Forces Remembrance Day is celebrated on January 15 each year to honour veterans of World War I and II, as well as the Nigerian Civil War for their significant contribution to the unity of Nigeria.
Buhari was joined by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo; the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Kayode Ariwoola; and the service chiefs led by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, among other dignitaries.
Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremonies also held across various states of the federation during which governors also paid tributes to the nation’s fallen heroes.
In Ebonyi State, Governor David Umahi performed the wreath laying on the tomb of the unknown soldier in Abakiliki.
