The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a Catholic priest,Rev. Father Isaac Achi in the early hours of Sunday by bandits in his Parish residence along Daza road,Kafin – Koro,Paikoro Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO,DSP W. A Abiodun said the bandits attempted to break into the residence at about 3.am but were unable and resorted to setting the house ablaze, with the Rev Fr in it
Abiodun, explained that a colleague of the Rev. Father identified as Father Collins was equally shot in the shoulder while trying to escape from the scene.
The PPRO also said that tactical teams attached to Kaffin-Koro Div were immediately dispatched to the scene, but the insurgents escaped before the arrival of the teams.
However, the lifeless body of Father Isaac was recovered while Father Collins was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Commissioner of Police CP Ogundele Ayodeji has dispatched a reinforcement team to the area and effort is ongoing to apprehend the assailants as investigation into the unfortunate attack has commenced., Abiodun said.
