Three police officers were shot dead on Saturday night when gunmen attack a check point at a boundary between Abakiliki, the Ebonyi State capital and Enugu Expressway.
The gunmen reportedly arrived the area in two Sienna buses and opened fire at the checkpoint l killing the three policemen.
A fourth policeman who also was on duty was Injured and is receiving treatment in a medical facility in Ebonyi.

A statement by the police spokesperson in Ebonyi, Chris Anyanwu, confirming the incident said,
“Yesterday’s attack by unknown gunmen at Ebonyi/Enugu boundary took place at about 1808hrs.
“Three police personnel of Operation Safer Highway, fatally injured. Later confirmed dead.
“Hoodlums operated in two sienna vehicles, drove into the Check-point, opened fire on the policemen,” he said in a statement.
Saturday’s attack is the latest in the series of deadly attacks on the police and other security agencies in the South-east.
States in the South East are being identified as ancillary war zones as gunmen in guerilla manner unleash terror on public officers and facilities especially those belonging to security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
Several people including traditional rulers, government officials and innocent travellers have been kidnapped and killed by the gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB and its Security wing, Eastern Security Network ESN.
