The House of Representatives has insisted that whether or not the deadline of the exchange of the old Naira notes to new ones was extended, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN) must appear before the committee investigating the new CBN monetary policy
The Chairman of the adhoc committee set up to interface with banks, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa who made this known while reacting to the extension, said that the extension is not the solution but that Emiefele must respect the rule of law and appear before them, or else they will still go ahead to issue his arrest warrant.
Dogowa said “The 10-day extension for the exchange of the old naira notes is not the solution: We as a legislative committee with a constitutional mandate of the house, would only accept clear compliance with section 20 sub 3, 4, and 5 of the CBN act and nothing more.”
“Nigeria as a developing economy and a nascent democracy must respect the principle of the rule of law. And the House would go ahead to sign arrest warrant to compel the CBN Governor to appear before the Adhoc committee.”
The House had last week threatened to issue an arrest warrant on the the CBN governor following his refusal to appear before it to clarify issues bordering on the newly introduced policies of the CBN which are posing serious challenges to Nigerians.
