A Senior Advocate of Nigeria,( SAN) Robert Clark has said that Nigerians have reason to thank God for the timely intervention of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN cash policy .
The CBN had fixed February 10 as the last day in which the old naira notes would cease to be legal tender.but the ruling of a Seven member panel of justices at the Supreme Court reversed the decision following an exparte motion by three Governors to stop the.policy.
The governors, Nasir El -Rufai of Kaduna State,Bello Mattawalle of Zamfara and Yahaya Bello of Kogi had dragged the Federal Government and the CBN to the Supreme Court requesting an order restraining the parties from going ahead with the February 10 deadline for the exchange of old naira notes with new ones.
Clark while reacting to the Apex court’s ruling on the matter during his interview with Arise TV,l programme, “The Morning Show” Friday said that the Supreme Court decision is divine and Nigerians should he thankful for God for it adding that if not for the ruling, Nigeria would be in serious crisis by now.
He said, “I Robert Clark, just yesterday, issued a check to my bank, they could not pay me. I had to go and buy a N100, 000 Naira for N125, 000 Naira. I have done that more than twice. Can’t you pity people who are suffering if I can be buying at that rate, what about the common man. Let us thank God we have a judgement from the Supreme Court, because God forbid, if not for this judgement from the Supreme Court this country would be in flames in a weeks time, many of you dont know what is going on”.
