The member representing Etche/ Omuma Federal Constituency,Hon Ephraim Nwuzi was Wednesday remanded in prison for Inciting Violence in Etcheland.
Nwuzi had in a trending video asked his supporters to shoot officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and others saddled with election duty in the local government.
In view of this, the Rivers State Police Command arrested him and preferred a remand proceeding against him .
Nwuzi was slapped a four -count charge of treasonable felony, conspiracy, motion of communal crisis and inciting violence.
Following the gravity of his offence,he was remanded by a Chief Magistrate Court , to the Nigerian Correctional Centre in the state
At Wednesday’s proceeding, counsel to the accused, Emenike Ebete, made an oral application for bail arguing that the offence by his client was not grievous enough to warrant a remandl but the bail application was opposed by the prosecuting counsel and the Police Officers in charge of the matter, suing that Nwuzi be remanded to pave the way for proper investigation and arraignment.
After listening to the arguments,Chief Magistrate O Amadi-Nna remanded Nwuzi to correctional center until March 3 when a charge will be preferred against him by the state.
Nwuzi , a first term lawmaker seeking re- election on Saturday 25th February,2023 was arrested on Wednesday morning at his residence in Chokocho, Etche LGA by policemen who allegedly broke into his apartment.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement said the Supervising Assistant Inspector General of Police for the elections in Rivers State, Abutu Yaro, had invited Nwuzi over an inciting video where he allegedly directed his supporters to attack some persons, including officials of INEC during the elections.
