
The Peoples Democratic Party PDP is protesting the outcome of the presidential election at the Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
Top members of the party including the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the National Chairman of the party,Dr Iyiorcha Ayu are at the gate of INEC to register what the party called failure by the Electoral umpire to deliver credible election as it promised.
The party had even before the final results was announced leading to the declaration of the winner protested the non display of votes from the polling units to the National Collation centre.
Its Spokesman,Dino Melaye,had in public glare registered the frustration of the party forcing him to stage walk out when he, and few other party officials felt that their demands would be difficult to meet.
Shortly after the winner, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress APC was declared, the PDP not only threatened but went to court to challenge the outcome of the result.
The protest has generated a lot of reaction from people.Some leaders of the party in Port Harcourt who spoke to current matters said protesting at INEC isn’t the right thing to do since the party is already in court.
Two members of the party who pleaded anonymity said they do not see the reason why a party that prided itself as the oldest party would take that route saying the action would in no way redeem the party’s lost integrity.
The protest march took off about 11:10 am. Joined in the march are the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Also joining the protest are the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; Chief Raymond Dokpesi; former Adamawa State Governor, Boni Haruna among other chieftains.
