Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has urged the people of Etche to reward his kindness of bringing massive development projects to the area by voting for Siminalayi Fubara, the gubernatorial candidate and other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the state on March 11.
The governor said this at the commissioning of the 27 kilometre Chokocho- Igbodo Road project constructed by Setrraco Ltd on Monday at Okomoko, Etche.
He said ” We have always fulfilled our own promise. Well promised you that we were going to do Igwuruta- Chokocho road, awarded to the same company, Setrraco Ltd, that we have done.We promised to do Chokocho- Ozuzu also done by the same company, that we have finished. We promised to do Nihi- Odufor road by the same company, that we have done.We promised to do Chokocho- Rumukwurusi, that we have done,we promised to do Ulakwo- Afara- Nihi, that we have done. We promised to bring a campus of Rivers State University, that we have done.We promised to give you a Senator, that we have done. So everything I have promised here to the glory of God, I’ve fulfilled them. So, I never told you one thing and I did another thing “.
Wike, who commended the people for voting a Southern candidate in the February 25 Presidential election stressed that he was one of those who stood for justice, equity and fairness in his party.
The governor said he was happy with the outcome of the election saying if the people voted for APC or Labour party there was no problem because the candidates are from the south.
According to him, the PDP breached Section 7(3)( C) of its constitution which states that there should be rotation of public policy by disallowing the rotation of top offices within the party.
Wike lambasted the gubernatorial candidate of the APC for lack of character saying that the candidate’s decision to delete a post congratulating the winner of last week’s presidential election in the country, Bola Tinubu within an hour of posting it justified his characterlessness saying those who want to govern the state ought to be sincere and bold .
The state chief executive also asked the Commissioner of Works,Dr George Kelly to immediately step up to ensure the completion of about 3km section of the road which borders Imo state which was not captured in the original engineering works and budget
Earlier, the Commissioner of Works, Dr Kelly had given a background of the project.
He said the project was flagged off in December 2021 under a 12 month agreement with the contractors adding that the project which has main carriage way, drains and 16 culverts with 6 discharge points was delivered on schedule.
In a short remark, the Chairman of the Etche Local Government Council,Mr Obinna Anyawu thanked the governor for the road project saying it has helped in the ease of movement in the area..
