Ahead of the Governorship and State House of Assembly Election on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has begun the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials across states.
The election was originally scheduled to hold on March 11 but was postponed by INEC after a court ruling to enable a seamless reconfiguration of its Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS machines .
The BVAS were used by the Electoral Commission during the presidential and National Assembly elections on February 25.
In Niger State where distribution of sensitive materials for Saturday’s election have commenced, the Resident Electoral Commissioner said the configuration of the BVAS was a huge success adding that the machines also went through successful quality assurance test
In Lagos, an official of the commission had disclosed that the machines, being among the sensitive election materials, would be deployed to INEC state offices before deployment to local governments, wards and polling units (PUs) on election day.
.
“The early deployment from Wednesday to the states was to ensure that there are no lapses or delays in their deployment. They would be moved to safe locations in states and to the LGAs, wards and polling units,” the official said.
In Rivers State, sensitive materials have reportedly been distributed to local government areas with the stage set for the election.
