The Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Zamfara state, Dauda Lawal has won the March 18 gubernatorial election after reports of siege of security agencies and abduction of collation officer in the state.
Lawal,a banker defeated the incumbent governor Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress APC, according to the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC at the collation center in Gusau the state capital on Tuesday morning.
INEC declared Lawal the governor-elect with a total of 377,726 votes, after he defeated Matawalle (APC) who polled 311,976.
With Zamfara falling to the PDP,APC has lost 3 states namely, Zamfara, Kano and Plateau. The party however,took two states- Sokoto and Benue while retaining Kaduna,Borno, Kwara,Yobe, Gombe and Jigawa.
Others are, Cross Rivers, Lagos,Ogun,Niger, Nasarawa, Katsina and Ebonyi state.
On the other hand the PDP took Zamfara and Plateau while maintaining its stronghold of Rivers, Taraba, Delta,Akwa Ibom , and Oyo
More results from states are being awaited in states still collating the final results.
However, INEC has detected the election in Adamawa and Kebbi states inconclusive while it has suspended further collation in Enugu and Abia States.
