Former President of the United States, Donald John Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury over financial crimes.
He is expected to be arraigned early next week.with over 30- count charge related to business fraud.
The indictment is said to have been” filed under seal and will be announced in the coming days”
However,Trump who was in his Mar- a- lago home in Florida at the time of the indictment call it a” Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history”
Trump had been under investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office since 2016 presidential election in connection with his alleged role in a hush money payment scheme and cover- up involving adult film star, Stormy Daniels.
This is the first time a US President, sitting or former will face criminal charges.
The indictment is said to have unsettled some of his party members at the upper and lower chambers of parliament with many calling it a witch-hunt.
Leaders of the Republican party in parliament Mitt Romney, Senate Minority Leader and Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker,were yet to make formal statements at the time of going to the press.
Before his indictment, the US Justice Department had said the former president could be sued for his role in the January 6 capitol hill insurrection.
