The Federal Road Safety Corps,FRSC on Sunday said all 15 passengers in a Toyota bus involved in an accident on Saturday along the Enugu- Port Harcourt Highway were killed and burnt without recognition.
The incident happened when the bus the deceased passengers were traveling in had a head-on collision with a Mercedes truck on the Highway.
Spokesman of the FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, who confirmed the accident in a statement in Abuja. said that the accident occurred at the Enugu highway’s end at about 8:20 p.m.
He said “The victims have been given mass burial. All obstructions have been cleared. Enugu State Fire Service already extinguished the fire on the bus.
“The fatal crash is blameable on several factors, including fatigue, which must have made one of the drivers sleep on the wheels,’’ he stated.
Kazeem said the Corp Marshall of the FRSC , Dauda Biu, has advised motorists to desist from night journeys to reduce fatalities from road crashes adding that it is difficult for victims to access help when crashes occur in the night away from rescue points.
The FRSC boss said “Travellers should plan their journeys for the daytime because when crashes occur away from FRSC rescue points, it is difficult to access help from other motorists at night,’’
