President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate suspension of Hudu Ari, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for Adamawa State.
A statement by Willie Bassey, Director Information,Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, said
“The President has also directed the immediate investigation and prosecution, if found liable, of Hudu Yunusa Ari by the Inspector General of Police,”
Hudu had declared Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC winner of the supplementary election in the state without recourse to the electoral guidelines that only the Returning Officer had the power to return a candidate.
INEC also faulted Hudu’s decision on the grounds that collation of results was pending when he declared Binani as governor elect and subsequently barred him from the activities of the commission.
The commission on Tuesday concluded the election and declared the incumbent, Ahmadu Fintiri governor elect. He was presented with his Certificate of Return on Wednesday.
