The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says no fewer than one hundred and 168 people have been displaced as a result of a building collapse at Sango police barracks in Ibadan on Saturday evening.
A statement by NEMA’S South West Zonal Coordinator,Mr Samuel Akode made this known in a statement on Sunday.
According to the Agency a total of 28 flats were affected by the collapse of the building in the police Barracks located within Ibadan North Local Government Area .
Mr Akiode said
the rescue operation which was a joint effort of sister agencies was successful adding that there no casualty was recorded.
“Over 168 persons displaced. The operation was successful evacuation activities is still ongoing. No casualty was recorded at the scene, 2 storey building collapsed with a total of 28 flats was affected.
“The NEMA South West Zonal Office received a distress alert at about 6.00pm on Saturday 22nd April, 2023 of a collapsed building at Nigeria Police Barrack block 11, Sango, Ibadan.
“The Zonal Coordinator Swiftly activated the Federal and State Fire Service and other response Agencies to the scene of incident. The ZC coordinated the rescue operation and the evacuation of the building and the surrounding buildings”.
