… Police move to douse tension.
Fighting has been reported between the Hausas and the Gbagyii youths in the Gwarimpa area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT ,Abuja .
Current matters reports that one person was confirmed dead while the area has remained tensed since Saturday that trouble began.
In the Meantime, the FCT Police Command has appealed to residents of the Gwarinpa axis to remain calm
The Command, in a statement on Monday by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said it had mobilized and deployed operatives to the area to douse tension.
According to her, the acting Commissioner of Police for the territory, DCP Ahmed Musa, on Monday, met with traditional rulers of both the Hausa and Gbagyi communities in Gwarinpa at his office in the Command Headquarters to broker peace between both groups.
She said that the fracas between the two groups led to the arrest of one suspect who is currently assisting the Police in their investigations to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the friction.
“The acting Commissioner charged the traditional rulers to consistently encourage youths to imbibe peace and pursue grievances through the legally approved channels rather than taking laws into their hands.
“Meanwhile, the Police have intensified surveillance patrols in the areas for monitoring the situation to ensure that it does not further escalate.
“He [acting Commissioner of Police] urges all well-meaning residents of the FCT to go about their lawful businesses and report all suspicious activities, persons, or groups via Command emergency lines.”
