…. praised Wke for gorgeous, iconic projects
….assures ” reform of judiciary is on the way”
…. .
President elect, Senator Bola Tinubu says it is inappropriate of him to make promises on projects that are tied to the outgoing administration when his own administration was yet to kick off.
Tinubu said this during the commissioning of the Justice Iche Ndu Magistrate Complex, Moscow Road, in Port Harcourt on Thursday as part of his two- day visit to Rivers State,
The president elect reiterated his electioneeing campaign promises of unity and fairness saying ” the unity of this country is not negotiable” and I promise” I’ll be fair to all”
Tinubu praised the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for executing gorgeous and iconic projects in the state and congratulated the magistrates for being the sole beneficiaries of the Complex.
He however charged them on the need to ensure maintenance of the edifice saying ” This edifice from the outside is so beautiful and gorgeous. We have to change our culture of maintenance which is not a local issue but universally accepted. “
The president elect identified poverty of thinking as the bane of lack of maintenance culture and others and said that Nigerians must review their ways of thinking and doing things and learn to tolerate one another.
Tinubu assured the judiciary in the country of reform as he emphasized ” ” Reform of the judiciary is on the way” and solicits the support of members.
Earlier, Gov. Wike had said that the building of the Justice Iche Ndu Magistrate Complex was informed by several lacks in the magistrate courts which delay quick dispensation of justice.
Wike named the Magistrate Complex comprising blocks of buildings after Justice Elizabeth Membere ( deceased) Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi and Justice Suzette Nyesom Wike, his wife.
The Rivers governor charged the judiciary on the culture of maintenance saying it is discouraging to come back and see projects as laudable as the complex fall into ruination
He said ” I hope in the next 6 months, this edifice will be like this?”
To ensure that the complex remains beautiful, the governor said he has directed the Chief Judge of the state to put its maintenance in the budget, adding that he would plead with his successor to carry over the disbursement of funds for the maintenance of the Magistrates complex at the cost of N20MILLIION every year.
” It will be quite unfair to see this edifice dilapidated. We will leave N20MILLIION every year for maintenance of the structure. We lack maintenance culture”.
He said people look at government facilities allocated to them for use lackadaisically stressing ” People cannot even cut grasses around them.”
However,an enthusiastic Gov Wike expressed happiness that he was leaving office as governor fully satisfied having achieved a lot for the people of the state.
” I’m bowing out with happiness that I’m going home satisfied that I didn’t dissapoint Rivers people.”
He thanked the President elect for demonstrating love for Rivers State and living his word of visiting the state to commission projects he promised.
