The Supreme Court on Tuesday struck out the appeal by Gboyega Oyetola ( APC) challenging the election of Ademola Adeleke as the duly elected governor of Osun state in the July 16 2022 governorship election .
The apex court held that the appellant failed to adduce enough evidence to prove his allegation of over voting in the July 16, 2022 governorship poll.
The Five members of the panel unanimously affirmed and adopted the judgement on the grounds that it lacked merit
Meanwhile, supporters of governor Adeleke are overjoyed by the Supreme Court’s decision.
Two supporters,Tolu and Temitope who spoke to current matters reporter at the court premises said ” Now, our governor can focus on the business of governance.
The duo said the court case was a distraction which they do not wish anyone to contemplate or even engage in.
“At last, this victory ends it all,we do not wish anyone to go through this. It’s a distraction from real business of governance,Tolu said while Temitope said ” Now the governor can concentrate. Supreme court is the last arbiter,no one will disturb the governor again.”
Recall that the Election Petition Tribunal in Osun state declared Oyetola, the former governor of the state as winner of the election.
Adeleke appealed the decision at the Court of Appeal and won.
Not satisfied with the outcome of the Appeal Court, Oyetola filed an appeal of alleged overvoting which was struck out by the Supreme Court over lack of evidence.
