The Board and Management of Senator Lamai Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization, has concluded plans to hold a memorial lecture in honour of Senator Ekpemoriri. A. Lamai, a Senator in the first republic.
One of the Cordinators, Comrade Moses Momoh, quoted the Executive Director, Chief Richard Lamai, as saying that his father lived a life of service to Community and left legacies worthy to be emulated in Edo/Delta States and Nigeria in general.
“The memorial lecture is scheduled to hold on Friday, 26th May, 2023 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua centre, CBD, Abuja by 9am”, he stated.
According to him, “Distinguished Senator Lamai was a founding member of the National Council For Nigerian Citizens, NCNC, led by the nationalist, Sir Herbert Marcaulay. He is also a foremost leader of Edo North politics(former Kukuruku division of the Midwest region)”.
In his words, “Senator Lamai was a vibrant and very engaging lawmaker in the first republic and through his prodigious intellect, he was able to defend the aspirations of his people while contributing to building a vibrant nation”.
“Now that democracy is taking strong roots in Nigeria, it has become imperative to X-ray the Nigerian Senate and its contributions to nation building since the first republic.
The lecture will also provide opportunity to setting agenda for the incoming Senate”.
According to Chief Richard Lamai, “This year’s memorial lecture will have in attendance very distinguished Nigerians including serving and former Governors, Senators and Honourable Members, traditional rulers and other members of the society”.
Our Correspondent reports that the Tenth National Assembly in Nigeria will be inaugurated in the second week of June, 2023.
