
The All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA has elected a A 38-year-old man, Sylvester Ezeokenwa, as its new National Chairman .
He was elected at the party’s national convention on Wednesday in Akwa, Anambra State, and attended by delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The election which was done through affirmation also had 31 members into the party’s national executive committee( NEC)
The Former National Chairman,Victor Oye, who addressed the delegates before dissolving the old executive committee, said he left N300 million in the party’s bank account.
Oye said that the party faced more than 200 court cases while he was in office but won all.
He disclosed that his tenure witnessed the completion of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja and a five-storey zonal office in Awka adding
;“This is despite the fact that I inherited less than N40 million from my predecessor,’’
The Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo in his remarks thanked the Oye -led executive for the peaceful conduct of the election
Soludo particularly praised Oye for providing strong leadership saying he “has written his name in gold”
“I am extremely thrilled that the past executives of APGA got stronger and Oye has written his name in gold. You served APGA and left it better than you met it,’’ the governor stated.
The governor also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the successful conduct of the last general elections and wondered why people were condemning the outcomes.
During the event, new members of the party’s Board of Trustees( BOT) led by former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, were nominated and ratified by the delegates.
The list of the members of the BoT also include Oye, former deputy governors – Emeka Sibeudu and Dame Virgy Etiaba. Others are the wife of the party’s eternal leader, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe .
The new APGA chairman, Ezeokenwa is the youngest National Chairman of political parties in Nigeria. While thanking the party for deeming it fit to entrust him with the leadership of the party, he said that” posterity stares at the new executives in the face as they lead APGA in the country”
