Chairman, Mutual Assurance plc and Patron, Friends of Jagaban Initiatives, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, has congratulated the new leadership at the National Assembly and Nigerians on the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja after the inauguration, Dr Ogunbiyi said, “the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio is another good omen for the country because, he is coming with a lot of experience as a former governor, Former Minister and a dogged fighter for justice and equity”.
” From my own perspective, it seems Nigerians are in for a real good time, where justice and people oriented policies would be the order of the day” Dr Ogunbiyi declared.
He added that the election, which was keenly contested also demonstrated the trust which other distinguished Senators have for Senator Akpabio’s leadership ability, where he polled 63 votes to defeat former Zamfara State Governor, Abdul Aziz Yari, who got 46 votes.
Prior to the election, Akpabio was nominated by Senator Ali Ndume and seconded by Senator Adeola Olamilekan while Senator Ishaku Abbo nominated Yari.
The election also produced Senator Barau Jibril as the Deputy Senate President.
Dr Ogunbiyi further stated that Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abbas is a grounded politician, whose antecedents have made so much impact in Kaduna State.
“Hon Abbas is a son of the soil, who always has the interest of masses at heart, he is a fine gentle man politician, who will support the Renewed Hope Agenda in all ramifications”
Ogunbiyi also encouraged the runners up to rally around the elected officers for unity of purpose, while commending their interest to serve the Nation and Nigerians at all levels.
