President Bola Tinubu is expected to attend a meeting of G20 in India in September .

The G20 was founded in 1999 as a forum for Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss global economic and financial issues following the Asian financial crisis in 1997.
It was upgraded to the level of Heads of Government in the wake of the global economic financial depression in 2007 with the prime focus on broad macroeconomic issues
However, the group of 20 countrries has since expanded its agenda to include trade, health, agriculture, Energy, Environment , Climate change, Sustainable development and others.
Members of the G20 are: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.
The G20 had its maiden summit in Washington DC in 2008 and later met twice in London and Pittsburgh in 2009. In 2010, leaders met in Toronto,Canada and the South Korean Capital, Seoul.
The G20 which adopts rotational presidency,had its recent meeting in Bali, Indonesia from 15,- 16 November 2022.
This year, the current president, India will host the summit from September 9-10.
The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Amb. Shri G. Balasubramanian revealed that channels of communication had already been opened between Nigeria and India towards President Tinubu’s participation.saying”This is something that we are working closely with Nigerian authorities.
“We have had more than 140 meetings from December till now and we are very satisfied with the participation of Nigeria in the G20 meetings and at the ministerial level, working group level, engagement group level, and so on and so forth.”
