Micro blogging platform, Twitter on Thursday threatened to sue Meta over the launch of a similar conversational micro blogging platform “Threads”
Threads is designed for real- time conversations and sharing and aims to provide users with a similar experience to Twitter.
But Twitter has kicked against the development claiming that Meta breached its intellectual property rights.
According to Alex Spiro, Twitter’s lawyer,Meta has employed former staff of Twitter who had and continue to access the trade secrets and other highly confidential information of the organisation to accelerate the development of Threads.
Spiro in a letter to Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO said Meta Platforms (Meta) has engaged in systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.
According to Spiro, Twitter “intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.”
“Twitter reserves all rights, including, but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice to prevent any further retention, disclosure, or use of its intellectual property by Meta,”
