The wife of the Cross River State Governor,Mrs Eyoawan Bassey Otu in support of her husband, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Otu on Saturday at the maiden edition of the State’s International Solemn Assembly, lifted the state into the hands of God for spiritual and physical regeneration .
Mrs Otu,a Deaconess who declared the event open at the Calabar International Conference Centre,CICC Calabar, said it was important to seek the face of God at all times pointing out that the Solemn Assembly was called to heal the land and usher in” peace and tranquility, progress and prosperity.
Speaking further, the wife of the governor expressed optimism that her husband’s administration will launch a renewal of hope, unity and stability while also accelerating the development of the state
On his part, Governor Otu said there was the need to heed to Gods directive to heal the land recalling ” Cross River was doing well until it eventually collapsed.”
The governor said that the development of the state was the responsibility of all Cross Riverians both at home and abroad and enjoined the people to join hands with him in building an economically viable state .
Otu said the task of governance is not easy which is why seeking the face of God for direction and wisdom is required to move the state forward.
He extended the olive branch to aggrieved persons saying now is the time for the people to come together in the course of repositioning the state ” because there will be enough for everyone to benefit from”
The governor said “Barely a month ago, we all assembled like this to celebrate the victory and enthronement of the Season of Sweetness, today is the spiritual seasoning of that season.
“I know Cross River was doing well until it eventually collapsed but as we all heed to God’s directives to gather and pray in unity, God will heal and restore our land again.
“Piloting the affairs of the state is not an easy task. This is why we have to seek the face and direction of the Author of wisdom to move the state forward. I alone and the people you have elected to represent you will not be able to do this work, we all must come together to build the state of our dream.
“The challenge we face today as a state is bigger than us to handle but I strongly believe that what God cannot do does not exist. I want all of you to take up your mantle and join me in this journey of spiritual renaissance as we reposition the state because there will be enough for everyone to benefit from without pulling down your brother.
“This is the time for us to build Cross River State. What is most important to me, is leaving an indelible print on the sands of time after the service period,”
.Delivering his sermon, Bishop Emma Isong General Overseer of Christ Chapel Int’l Church, urged the people of the state to support the Otu administration for peace and unity in creating a peaceful, united and economically prosperous state
Meanwhile,in her quest to compliment her husband’s drive to wipe out poverty, give a human face to governance and lift public institutions,Eyoanwan has embarked on projects barely six weeks of the administration.
Disturbed by the high maternal mortality rate globally , particularly, in the underdeveloped countries,, the Cross River first lady has as a first phase, provided one thousand antenatal kits for hospitals to distribute to pregnant women reaching their expected delivery dates ( EDD) saying Prevention is better than cure.
Mrs Otu has also undertaken the renovation of a building at the Calabar Custodial centre while also launching a skill acquisition program for inmates of the centre.
Otu who spoke extensively to current matters on her mission in the state said she desires to give better life to the people including street children, hinting that her office has already begun the process of taking the children off the streets, identifying their problems, and reuniting those extremely poor with families including providing basic needs while plans are underway to rehabilitate those with special needs.
