Governor of Rivers State,Siminalayi Fubara has signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Julius Berger Nigeria PLC for the construction of the Port Harcourt Ring Road project valued at about N200billion.
The event took place at the Executive Chambers of Government House in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Gov Fubara stated his administration’s preparedness to develop new cities, engendering seamless mobility and commerce via the construction of the Port Harcourt Ring Road project.
According to him, the urgency to deliver the project which traverses 6 local government areas was the reason for the release of 77% mobilisation fee for the contract valued at N195.38billion adding that when the project has reached 75% completion, the balance will be released to the company
He called on the traditional rulers and other residents of Eleme, Okrika, Phalga,Obio Akpor, Etche and Ikwerre ,hosts of the ring road to see the project as their own and not to jeopardize the effort of the government as any one found guilty would face the full weight of the law.
The governor said that the project was initiated by previous administrations but could not embark on it even with abundant resourses available at their disposal to do so saying that his administration may not have so much but had the will to execute the project.
“This is something previous governments had conceived. Some had so much money, some save hundreds of billions of naira in banks accounts but couldn’t venture into it. Today, it’s not that we even have the money, but we are bearing it.
“For JB, we are engaging you because you have a history in this state. Landmark developments have not been achieved in this state without you. We have cases of flyovers, wonderful medical centers, you are instrumental to them and people have acknowledged your standards.
“Total value of the contract is N195.3B and we are paying (mobilising) you 77 percent which is over N150B immediately after this event. Once will confirm 55% of the initial fund release, we will commence payment of the balance.
