The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC,Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has resigned from office according to several reports reaching current matters publication on Sunday evening.
Although his resignation has not been made public, yet, reports indicate that Adamu,a former governor of Nasarawa State resigned to save his face amid ongoing threats to sack him from office
Recall that in the build up to the APC presidential primary in 2022, Adamu pitched camp with Senator Ahmed Lawan, the then President of the Senate as his preferred Presidential Candidate and tried to foist it on stakeholders of the party as the consensus candidate of the party.
But the standpoint of the progressives governors from the North on power shift to the South, and the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the flag bearer of the party put the National Chairman in a very tight corner.
Senator Adamu’s public confession last week of his support for Lawan may have also fuelled the barrage of criticism and incessant calls by members of the party for his resignation.
Current matters gathered that top party men including the National Security Adviser,Mr Nuhu Ribadu and some progressive governors, notably, Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum asked Adamu to resign or be disgraced at the next National Executive Council( NEC )meeting scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
