The Rivers State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party PDP, has alleged that forces led by Atiku Abubakar the presidential candidate of the party in 2023 election are plotting to denigrate former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike over his nomination as a minister by President Bola Tinubu.
The party claimed it was aware that members of a group led by the former vice president are holding meetings on how to deal with Wike, who, according to it ‘is a patriot and prominent nationalist whose interest it is to protect the unity and stability of our dear country.’
The PDP said this in a statement signed by Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke, former Spokesman of its State Campaign Organization in the state.
The party noted that decision by Tinubu to nominate Wike and other prominent Nigerians with proven track records, to serve the nation is being hailed by progressive minded Nigerians as a masterstroke in ongoing efforts to reclaim their country.
“The current APC government which is being hailed worldwide for its resolve to provide typical Nigerian solutions to Nigeria’s teething socio-economic and sociopolitical problems have decided to embark on a bi-partisan approach in order to rebrand and rebuild our great country”.
Nwuke said by doing so, the Tinubu government has resolved to let bygones be bygones by extending its hand to Nigerians with different political persuasions to join hands with it in totally liberating the country from the clutches of economic backwardness, political instability and dangerous insurgency.
The Rivers State POP therefore queried why those it described as the “gang of confusionists in the PDP’ will for selfish reasons want a war with Wike, the Nigerian people and the Tinubu government over the ministerial nomination.
Nwuke added that Wike, who, according to him, struggled to rebuild the PDP before the arrival of restive locusts, the good people of Nigeria who fought for justice, equity and fairness and the nationalistic government headed by President Bola, Tinubu will never allow selfish and unpatriotic persons to derail the plan to salvage Nigeria.
“On the contrary, they are determined to leave Egypt with all who believe in the birth of a new Nigeria; all respect the sovereignty of the Nigerian people for the promised land.
He emphasized that no amount of blackmail, intimidation, acts of reactionary provocations and threats will therefore deter the Wike from responding to a call to service at a time of national emergency.
According to him, ‘those who are gathering like vultures circling in the sky are the real haters and true enemies of Nigeria. They are the very ones who profit when the nation is on fire and the people suffer, and the architects of disunity, political instability, insecurity and the spread of unwarranted poverty.;
On the viral video where Wike described APC as cancerous party he said “As things are the cancer suffered by the APC is yet to turn malignant. This means that the cancer afflicting the APC is not incurable.
” By the instrumentality of God’s intervention, Nigeria now has a new leader who through correctional surgery is committed to completely healing his party of cancer. This is the basis of the political engineering that President Tinubu has embarked on.
” They have quoted Ex-governor Wike as saying he will not be a Minister. The difference is that Nigeria has extended its hands of fellowship to all who love her. Nigeria is beckoning and any true patriot who believes in the historic mission of this country must answer the clarion call”.
The former PDP Spokesman reiterated that as members of the PDP in Rivers State, they are standing absolutely behind their leader.
“An attack on Wike is an attack on the rest of us. And we wish to remind the PDP of the danger in taking precipitate steps that may indeed mark the beginning of the end of a party that we have all labored to build.
“Finally, we thank President Bola Tinubu for putting Nigeria first in his bold attempt to gather Nigerians of different shades of opinion in order to build a strong democracy and grow a resilient economy that is sustainable.”
