. The presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale disclosed on his Twitter account that ” H. E President @officialABAT on Sunday evening met with Governors of States that share boundaries with Niger Republic at the State House in Abuja. The meeting was part of wider consultations by the President on the situation in Niger
” Sokoto, Kebbi , Yobe, Katsina & Jigawa Govs” He tweeted.
The meeting with the governors came a few hours before the expiration of the ECOWAS 7 -day ultimatum to coup leaders in Niger Republic
ECOWAS had in an extraordinary meeting in Abuja last Sunday given the military a week to release and reinstate Mohammed Bazoum, the seized democratically elected president of Niger or face military action along with sanctions which included seizures of assets and accounts of Niger domiciled in the member states, closure of borders and imposition of No – fly zone on the West African Country.
However ,there are challenges with the ultimatum by ECOWAS especially in the use of military action on Niger as the Nigerian senate and other stakeholders have cautioned the president who also doubles as the Chairperson of ECOWAS, to jettison any plan of force rather than diplomatic means to resolve the impasse in Niger.
