As the military Junta in Niger Republic defies deadline of the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS , a Niger Delta activist, Asari Mujahid Dokubo says he and his men would be glad to fight in Niger and bring victory to the region.
Dokubo, who made this known in a viral video on Monday cleared President Bola Tinubu of any personal dispute with the Niger people but said ” the fact that as the ECOWAS, he must abide by the protocols of the treaty he signed. On the other hand,if he orders me and my men to go to Niger Republic,we will go and return victorious.. They are actually not our match ” he said. .
The former leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force also clarified that he operates a private military company that provides security if contracted, contrary to reports that he operates a private army.
According to him, “private military companies exist everywhere. There is Blackwater in the United States and in Russia, there is Wagner private military company,I think South Africa is the country that has the highest number of private military companies today”.
Dokubo’s submission to fight in Niger comes after netizens asked president Tinubu to recruit MC Oluomo of Lagos and he ( Dokubo) to go and fight the coup plotters in Niger.
ECOWAS had on Sunday July 30 asked the coupists in Niger Republic to restore democratic order or face military action while doling out sweeping sanctions against Niger.
The Junta in apparent show of testing the powers of ECOWAS even in the midst of biting sanctions of energy cut and assets seizing coupled with a declaration of no- fly- zone , refused to bulge over the threats of the Sub regional bloc perhaps because of the support from other countries also having military heads and foreign interests in the imbroglio.
Again, Nigeria, who heads ECOWAS is polarised in the crisis in Niger as those who share border with Niger and have cultural affinity and religious affiliation with the people of Niger are taking steps backward in the area of ECOWAS military action on Niger, as in their views, such would impact severely on citizens of the country
Aligning with this thought are also stakeholders of political parties and elder statesmen who opined that Nigeria has a lot on its hands already and cannot afford to go into a war that would be counterproductive citing age – long relationship between Nigeria and Niger.
