A Chieftain of the Labour Party, Prof. Pat Utomi revealed on Friday that he has been off the public radar for sometime due to his battle with prostate cancer.
Utomi ,who disclosed that he received a diagnosis last year of the disease in a series of Tweets, said, “Prostate cancer is bringing death and misery to many men.”
The professor of political economy contended that if patients had been forewarned, the “misery containment” and chances of cure could be significantly enhanced, similar to breast cancer prevention efforts among women.
He said “When a biopsy showed I was positive last year I began treatment with a cancer Centre with a branch in Ikeja and VI,”
“I sometimes came from election campaigns to the Ikeja Centre near the Airport. The Doctors would try to smuggle me out from the back.”
Utomi explained how his relations abroad collaborated with the Lakeshore Cancer treatment center and ” decided they wanted me in their direct care” adding that they controlled his phones which is why he has been quiet.
“Once elections were over my young nephews and cousins, Doctors in Europe and the US , joined forces with the Lakeshore people and decided they wanted me in their direct care. That’s how come it seemed I went quiet cause they controlled my phones to reduce stress”
Utomi , a staunch supporter of the LP presidential candidate,Mr Peter Obi in the 2023 election was shortly after the election allegedly accused of collecting money from Bola Ahmed Tinubu to frustrate the chances of Obi, a claim he denied and clarified that he received only $2000 from Tinubu about two decades ago.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the February 25 election . Tinubu was subsequently sworn in as president but the first and second runners up, Abubakar Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour party LP respectively, JUST IN:are in court challenging the outcome of the election and reportedly bracing up for a rerun.
