The Rivers State House of Assembly on Wednesday resolved to honour three daughters of the state for putting the state on the world’s stage.
They are Rena Wakama, D’Tigress Head Coach, Pallas Kunaiyi – Akpanah a player in the D’Tigress victory team and Mary Kekwaru,a good Samaritan.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Hon Linda Somiari- Stewart, the member representing Okrika Constituency during plenary.
The lawmakers expressed delight in the outstanding coaching skills of Rena Wakama, the first female coach of the Nigeria Women’s Basketball Team, D’Tigress who brought victory to her fatherland in the just concluded Afro basketball tournament in Kigali, the Rwandan capital. Wakama hails from Okrika.
Kunaiyi – Akpanah,one of the players whose dedication and commitment to the rules of the game resulted in the Rwandan victory is from Abonnena, Kalabari .
On the other hand,Kekwaru Mary, a staff of Eko Hotels in Lagos who returned $70,000 to the owner has endeared herself to many at home and abroad for her good samaritan disposition..
Kekwaru was recently honoured by her local government counci Emohua Local Government and even rewarded with a chieftaincy title by her village.Besides, she was rewarded with a Canada Permanent Residency by a group who followed her examplary deeds.
