Military Chiefs under the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS are meeting in Ghana over an expected military action on Niger Republic.
Leaders of ECOWAS had imposed sanctions on Niger following a coup by a group of military officers led by General Abdourahamane Tiani on July 26,2023.
Tiani and his men arrested the democratically elected president, Mohammed Bazoum and his family and have refused to yield to calls by the Regional bloc to release and reinstate the president.
In their last extraordinary meeting in Abuja, ECOWAS leaders directed the military to be on standby for military action as all efforts to enthrone peace and constitutional order in Niger proved abortive.
The military had fixed last Thursday and Friday for their meeting in Ghana but it was put on hold.
