Nigeria’s popular Athlete , Tobi Amusan has been cleared of doping allegations.
This was revealed today by a panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal .
The panel states that Amusan has not committed any anti – doping violation rules and therefore lifted her suspension with immediate effect.
“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period,” the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said in a Thursday evening statement.
“AIU Head Brett Clothier has indicated the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline.
“The decision is currently confidential but will be published in due course. Amusan’s provisional suspension has now been lifted with immediate effect.”
The AIU provisionally suspended Amusan in July for missing three drug tests within 12 months and said she would face a two-year ban if the charges were upheld.
Following her suspension, her name was not listed to defend her title in the World’s Athletics Championship beginning on Saturday this week in Budapest, Hungary .
But with the clean bill of health by the disciplinary panel, Tobi will participate in the tournament and win more laurels for her fatherland.
Amusan had insisted in the wake of the suspension that she was clean and vowed to challenge the decision.
On her Twitter account,She wrote “I am a CLEAN athlete, and I am regularly (maybe more than usual) tested by the AIU,”
“Today the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has charged me with an alleged rule violation for having 3 missed tests in 12 months.
“I intend to fight this charge and will have my case decided by a tribunal of 3 arbitrators before the start of next month’s World Championships.”
Amusan’s clearance has given relief to many Nigerians at home and in the diapora who described the suspension as unfair to the athlete.
Aaron ,a clergyman who spoke to current matters said he is happy that her name has been cleared.
” That girl is a wonderful athlete. I don’t know why anyone would subject to such controversy. That’s not fair.
” She has given this country a good image by her performance at the global level and I’m super proud of her and happy that she has been cleared.
Also holding a similar opinion, Grace ,a Nigerian resident in the United Kingdom said ” Tobi was unfairly treated”
According to her, when she heard the news that the popular athlete was suspended for alleged doping violation, she felt it was racially motivated.
However, she felt relieved that at last,Amusan has been cleared of all allegations.
” I believed her when she said she is clean . I’m happy for her” she said.
