Nigeria’s Super Falcons have joined the league of top ten teams in the World according to FIFA’s most recent rankings.
The Nigerian team ranked No 10 behind the USA and Colombia respectively, while the first and second position goes to Spain and England respectively. Others on the first 10 are Sweden ( 3) Australia (4 ) Japan ( 5) France ( 6) and The Netherlands ( 7)
The ranking came after Spain defeated England 1-0 l to emerge winner of the Women’s World Cup Final on Sunday, August 20,2023 in Sydney, Australia .
The ranking is in accordance with the FIFA’s regulation on stage and circumstances surrounding the team’s elimination .
The Super Falcons were placed 10th as a result of their outstanding performance and the circumstances surrounding their elimination
By the recent release, Nigeria now ranked higher than Germany, Italy ,Brazil and Portugal, while also being the only African football team in the top ten and highest-ranked female football team in Africa.
The Super Falcons were eliminated 4-2 by the Lionesses of England in penalty shootout at the Knockout stage of the World cup
