The African Union AU has suspended Niger Republic over the seizure of power from Mohammed Bazoum by the democratically elected president of the country on July 26.
The AU in a statement on Tuesday, said the Republic of Niger is now suspended from all its activities
While the continental bloc reiterated calls for the coup leaders to release Bazoum and return to their barracks,it said its Peace and Security Council has taken note of the resolution of the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS regarding the Military action on Niger adding that it would assess the social, and security implications of deploying such a force.
It called on all of its member states and the international community to refrain from any action that could legitimise Niger’s junta and said it strongly rejected interference from any actor or country outside of Africa.
The African Union consists of 55 Member States which represent all the countries on the African continent.
