President Bola Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recall Nigeria’s ambassadors, both career diplomats and non-career envoys.
On Friday, a letter signed by the Minister asking Sarafa Ishola, the Ambassador to the United Kingdom to ” initiate the process of winding down diplomatic responsibilities” within a 60- day timeframe appeared as an isolated case.
However, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar has clarified said that all Ambassadors have been recalled.
A statement issued on Saturday by Alkasim Abdulkadir, the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Communications Strategy said,
“In response to inquiries regarding the letter recalling the Nigerian ambassador to the UK, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has clarified that all career diplomats and non-career envoys have been recalled based on the directives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Ambassadors, serving as representatives of the country, operate under the authority of the President, and it is within his prerogative to appoint or recall them from any country.”
