The panel of justices for the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the petition alleging that for a presidential candidate to be declared winner of the election, the candidate is required to secure 25% of the total votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Chairman of the Tribunal,Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, said this on Wednesday while giving highlights of the judgement on petition by the Labour party LP arguing that Bola Tinubu, Candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC should be disqualified from being president for failing to secure the 25% win in the FCT
Justice Tsamman clarified that the FCT has no special status attached to it as it is equal to every other state in the country.
The ruling was made in response to a petition filed by the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who challenged the election of President Bola Tinubu. Obi had argued that Tinubu should be disqualified from being president because he did not win 25% of the votes cast in the FCT.
