….. reiterates position on use of concrete.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi says plans are underway by the Federal Government to construct two super highways across the country .
Umahi disclosed this to State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Sunday in Abuja.
The Minister said that the highways which would be from Abuja to Lagos and Port Harcourt to Lagos and provided with the State of the Art facilities would be achieved through a Public Private Partnership PPP .
According to him,the government has got commitments from stakeholders to make the project a success within a reasonable timeframe.
While disclosing that due to inappropriate funding, he has asked the president to direct the termination of road projects that have taken more than 10 years without completion,Umahi assured Nigerians that no project initiated by the past administration would be abandoned by the government
He revealed that the Tinubu administration inherited 2,604 projects worth N14 trillion covering 18,000 kilometres of roads, adding that a commitment was made for payment of four trillion out of this amount.
Speaking further he said that the government was also committed to the use of reinforced concrete for road pavements across the country due to its advantages some of which he enumerated as being capable of withstanding heavy loads, such as heavy duty vehicles, with less deformation and serves for years without major repairs and, elimination of imported items which, he linked to contract variations in the country
