The Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Duoye Diri says his administration has delivered several developmental projects to improve the wellbeing of the people .
They include infrastructure- construction of roads, housing and human capacity building.
Governor Diri disclosed this on Saturday during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors NGE in his home town,Sampou in Kolokuma Opokuma Local Government Area of the state ..
Among the road projects are the ongoing 21 Km first phase Nembe/ Brass road being constructed with 10 bridges at the cost of N54 billion and the Sagbama/Ekeremo road project.
Governor Diri said the Nembe/ Brass road when completed will contribute immensely to the economic growth and create job opportunities in line with the goals of the Nation’s Blue Economy drive
While hinting that work on the building of a Metro city is in progress to decongest the capital and attract more investments to the state, Diri said that state under his leadership , Bayelsa has moved from the status of a lone road state as new roads have been constructed for the people to access.
The governor also told the visiting editors that his administration has shifted attention from paper qualification to human capacity building with a view to strengthening Technical education to develop skills required for jobs in the state.
According to him, his administration has also launched a palliative scheme where beneficiaries of small and medium scale enterprises in the state are paid the sum of N200,000 monthly.
Speaking further, Governor Diri disclosed that on assumption of office, he found out that pensioners were being owed arrears adding that he did not only direct payment of their monthly pensions but began the clearance of backlogs of gratuities .
Earlier, the President of the NGE,Eze Anaba said that members of the NGE toured several projects undertaken by the Diri administration. He pointed out that they clearly expressed the governor’s commitment to provide quality services to the people of the state..
Some of the sites that the editors toured included the Mount Moriah road linking Yenagoa to the Nembe communities, the Oporoma bridge project, the 38 hectares rice farm in Ogbia and the Ernest Ikoli Media Centre with an array of modern equipments to boost efficient dissemination of information across the state..
