To stave off impeachment proceeding against Ondo Deputy Governor,Lucky Aiyedatiwa and normalise frosty relationship with his boss, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has set up a 9 member committee headed by the former governor of Katsina state,Aminu Masari.
This is contained in a statement by Edwin Olofu,Chief Press Secretary to the APC National Chairman.
The development comes a few days after the Ondo State House of Assembly sent a letter to the Deputy Governor containing 14 allegations of gross misconduct
In the letter which forms the basis of the impeachment, the Lawmakers accused the Deputy Governor of enriching himself with public funds entrusted to him, financial embezzlement and assault on his wife among others.
Aiyedatiwa had sensed the plot to impeach him early enough and approached a High court to stop it.
The court granted him the relief by restraining Akeredolu and the House of Assembly from removing him from office.
But in spite of the court order, the lawmakers vowed to proceed with the impeachment.
The political is believed to have pitched some members of the APC in the state against one another making the national chairman to intervene
“The national secretariat of the party is really concerned about the unfortunate political situation in Ondo State, which, if not quickly averted, may lead to further disaffection among party faithful.
“Therefore, in order to avert the misunderstanding, and after critical observation of the situation, the national secretariat has decided to
wade in with a view to fostering better understanding that may likely lead to an amicable resolution.”
Ganduje appealed for calm in the camps of all involved parties, and assured party members that the committee would interact and dialogue with all stakeholders in the state based on mutual respect to resolve the situation.
