President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has increased the wages of public workers by N35,000.
The increase in wages which was announced Sunday night cuts across all levels of workers in the Federal civil service and will last for a period of 6 months.
Earlier, in his Independence Day Anniversary broadcast, the president had announced an increase of N25,000 for the low cadre of workers but the Organised Labour spotted the difference and reached out to the presidency.
Speaking after meeting with the Labour unions’ on Sunday, the Chief of Staff to the President,Rt. Hon Femi Gbajiabiamila said the issue was being resolved.
With that, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC Joe Ajaero said that the unions will get the development across all its organs.
The Labour unions had threatened to embark on an indefinite strike from October 3.to compel the government to meet their demands on palliatives to reasonably cushion the effects of challenges following the removal of fuel subsidy citing high – level corruption.
The Tinubu administration had at inception on May 29, announced the end of the petrol subsidy regime.
That announcement shot up prices of prices of Petroleum products and other goods and services.
However, the announcement of wage rise by the president may have averted what was being proposed as a Total or Mother of all Strikes by the Unions.
