The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, is receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri, where he was rushed to after being subjected to severe brutalisation by a team of heavily armed security agents.
The NLC’s Head of Information and Publicity, Comrade Benson Upah who disclosed this on Wednesday evening in a statement said Ajaero’s right eye is entirely swollen shut.
“We established contact with Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero this evening around 15:30 hours at the Police Hospital in Owerri, from where he was transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he is receiving medical attention.
“He was severely battered, and at the time of contact, his right eye was completely swollen shut. Ajaero was subjected to physical assault while blindfolded and taken to an undisclosed location where he endured further brutality, sometimes involving the use of bottles. His phones, money, and personal belongings were confiscated and have not been returned to him
Earlier ,current matters reports that Ajaero was whisked away by heavily armed operatives during the NLC protest in Imo state on Wednesday.
