…..Healthcare Institutions & Hospitals to benefit from subsidies from Power Consumer Assistance Funds (PCAF).
A bill seeking to amend the electricity act 2023 to explicitly include Hospitals, Primary Care Centers, Rural Hospitals and all Healthcare Institutions as eligible beneficiaries for subsidies from the Power Consumer Assistance Funds (PCAF) has passed first reading in the Senate.
The Bill amendment is being sponsored by the Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District, Rivers State, Her Excellency, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo DSSRS.
Senator Banigo, a Harvard-trained Medical Personnel and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, said the Bill would not only create rooms for Hospitals ,Primary Health Care Centers, Rural hospitals and other Health Care Institutions in Nigerian to benefit from Subsidies from the Power Consumer Assistance Funds(PCAF), but will enhance smooth operations and efficient service delivery in the Health Care Sector.
According to Senator Banigo, section 122 of the Principal Act is to be amended to specify that the PCAF shall serve to subsidize Power supplied to all designated Healthcare Institutions as specified by the Minister in consultation with the relevant Commission.
The former Deputy Governor of Rivers State explained that when passed into Law, the Bill may be cited as the ELECTRICITY ACT (amendment) Bill 2023.
