Hoodlums have seized officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
Current matters gathered that the development is not unconnected with the alleged move by INEC to collate the local government results in Yenegoa instead of Brass where the election took place.
The All Progressives Congress APC earlier on Sunday raised alarm of a deliberate plan by INEC to move collation to the state Collation centre to compromise the outcome of the results.
However, INEC has said that it is watching
“The Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area”. where its personnel are held hostage.
Taking to its verified X account @inecnigeria on Sunday afternoon, the commission wrote;
“The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where our officials are held hostage.
This is detrimental to credible elections. We call on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release”
Meanwhile, Results collated so far by INEC in Yenegoa showed the incumbent Governor, Duoye Diri leading in 3 local government areas – Kolokuma Opokuma, Yenegoa and Ogbia. Results of 5 local government areas are being expected at the time of filing this report.
