Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Bayelsa state,Senator Douye Diri, has won the November 11 Governorship election in the state.
The State’s Returning Officer,Prof. Faruq Kuta on Monday declared that the governor having satisfied the constitutional requirements of scoring the highest number of votes and polling more than 25% in two thirds of the local government areas was returned elected.
Diri won in six of the eight local government areas polling a total of 175,196 votes to defeat his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress APC who got 115,262 votes.
The announcement of the winner of the Bayelsa gubernatorial election completes the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC ‘s conduct of the Off-cycle Elections in 2023.
On Sunday, the Electoral umpire declared the All Progressives Congress APC incumbent governor of Imo state Senator Hope Uzodinma as winner of the election in Imo and also declared Mr Usman Ododo of the APC in Kogi state as winner of the governorship election in that state.
