In a bid to provide free and qualitative education , the Akwa Ibom State Government has built a model primary school with the state -of- the art facilities in Uyo, the state capital.
Taking a team of the Nigerian Guild of Editors NGE led by Guild president,Eze Anaba on tour of facilities in the state on Friday, the Commissioner of Education,Mrs Idongesiet Etiebet said that the school, a vision borne by the State Governor, Pastor Umoh Eno to give the people access to good Education will be replicated across the 31 Local Government Areas of the state.
Accompanied by the Commissioner of Special Duties,Dr Bassey Okon, Etiebet said that with the establishment of the school, parents are rushing to enroll their children in the school.
The school located in the centre of the state capital has blocks of equipped classrooms, exercise books,sickbay, Teachers quarter and play ground among others.
Editors also toured the E- Library facility which also accommodates the state Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre in the state metropolis.
Speaking while conducting the editors round the facility, Mr Ime Uwa,Director of Programmes at the Entrepreneurial Accelerator Program EAP said currently,400 persons were attending a 3- month training programme on skills after which each of the trainees would receive the sum of N500,000 to open their businesses.
The skills include shoe making and tailoring..
A trainer, Esther Udoh when asked about her ultimate objective of training the learners said they are first of all taught pattern drafting adding that her goal is to see them climb to heights that advance the progress and development of the state.
At the health centre at Ibesikpo – Asutan Local Government Area, Dr Ikem Emmanuel John the Special Assistant to the governor said the facility which is undergoing the last phase of completion was constructed eleven weeks ago by Governor Eno’s administration.
According to him, the Health centre was driven by the desire of the government to bring health care to the doorsteps of the people.
He said while another primary health care centre was being constructed simultaneously in another ward, it was the desire of the governor that ” Every ward should have a functional health centre.
The physician added that the health facility which has a Doctor’s quarter and other medical personnel to render service to the rural dwellers less cumbersome and attractive also has an electric fence which the Editors found being fixed.
Current matters reports that the health centre is designed to provide services for outpatient and inpatients as wards to offer Emergency treatments are also being provided.
