The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress APC has sacked the Rivers State Council.
The NYC led by Abdullahi Ganduje also set up a 7- member committee to supervise the conduct of a congress to choose new Excos.
The caretaker committee has Chief Tony Okocha as chairman and Eric Nwibani as Secretary
The National Publicity Secretary,Mr Felix Morka who made this known while addressing journalists at the party secretariat in Abuja said the Caretaker Committee will steer the Party’s affairs in the state for the next six months.
adding that the inauguration of the committee members will take place at the party secretariat on Friday..
The dissolution of the exco – loyal to the former Minister of Transportation,Mr Rotimi Amaechi and appointment of a caretaker committee to run the affairs is a pointer to the fact that there may be serious changes in the way the party is run. It may also be an indication that the party is restragising to wrest power from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
Recall that the APC in Rivers has for more than eight years lost key elections to the PDP, however, the party won the February 25 presidential election through the instrumentality of Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT
Wike, who along with 4 governors agitated for a president of Southern extraction,fell out with his party when it was obvious that the party’s NWC was not prepared to rotate its offices. He galvanized the people of the state to participate in the election leading to the victory of the APC presidential candidate.
