The Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, said the National Working Committee under his leadership has no reason to suspend or dismiss any member on grounds of anti – party activities
The PDP Chair who made this known while addressing the PDP Mobilisers Group in Abuja at the weekend said that the NWC rather than further divide the party is focused on keeping the party together by bringing all members back on board .
He explained that if he were to listen to calls for suspension or expulsion of members of the party on the grounds of anti – party, then he would “end up suspending many people because they were involved in anti – party activities at different levels”
He urged agitators to bear with his team saying” We intend to keep this party together and to manage it. This is my mandate “
The explanation of his leadership position came months after some members of the party, aggrieved by the defeat of the party in the 2023 presidential election and the key roles played by some prominent members of the party including the G- 5 governors led by Nyesom Wike called for the suspension of those involved..
However, the Acting Chairman who described the 2023 presidential election defeat as “most painful” said blaming one another for the outcome should not be the case for now expressing his belief in the party as the best in the country.
According to him, the NWC has already approved an election review and reconciliation committee with a mandate to form sub committees that would review the 2023 election as well as those of 2015 and 2019 adding that ” when they bring the reports,we will meet and take decisions”
