The Rivers State Government has demolished the House of Assembly.
On Wednesday morning, Bulldozers, Caterpillar Trucks were seen bringing down the seat of the Legislature
The demolition comes amidst the festering political crisis in the state.
On Monday, 27 lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike defected to the All Progressives Congress APC,an action seen by many as a big challenge to the sitting governor, Siminilayi Fubara.
The demolition has generated negative reactions from well meaning people of the state.
A member of the PDP who spoke to current matters under the condition of anonymity said the demolition is an extreme measure by the governor to ventilate his anger which should not be.
According to the party stalwart, “this is madness. Why should he demolish the Assembly? If he is aggrieved he should have taken his grievance to court and not this way.
The House of Assembly complex was built by the government of Peter Odili with large sum of the people’s money and described as the best in the country.
So far,no reason has been given by the government for the demolition.
